Preheat the oven to 180C/160Fan/350F/Gas mark 4.

Butter and line the base of a 23cm round cake tin.

Mix Ingredients

Place the butter, caster sugar, ground almonds, self raising flour, salt, eggs, and vanilla or almond extract in a large mixing bowl.

Beat Ingredients

Beat the ingredients together for about 2 minutes until you have a pale, smooth mixture.

Prepare Cake Batter

Spoon the cake batter into the lined cake tin and smooth the top.

Arrange Strawberries

Arrange the strawberries on top, slightly pushing them into the cake batter.

Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the cake is golden and firm to touch.
