At Nestlé, compliance with international and local regulations is non-negotiable. Nestlé products in the Middle East market distributed through Nestlé Middle East FZE are manufactured under strict regulations that meet Islamic standards to ensure that the products are Halal as mandated by the law in the UAE and other countries in the region. KitKat® chocolate products which are distributed in the Middle East market are manufactured by Nestlé Dubai Manufacturing LLC, our factory in Dubai, UAE which has acquired the Halal Certification from Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA) and do not contain any alcohol or tobacco or any traces of it.
There are certain International Certification Services which are normally responsible for auditing our suppliers for certain aspects, one of which is Responsible Sourcing. According to the audit, they issue a Letter of Conformity which confirms that the supplier is compliant with the “Responsible Sourcing Audit Program”. Hence, our policy is to cut the supply from suppliers who are not complaint with the same and with the code of ethics and from the ones who are not willing to close their gaps for Regulatory, Environment and Safety incompliances with local and international laws.
Kindly note that any NESTLÉ product available in Middle East market does not contain any Genetically Modified Organisms including KitKat® products. As a global food company, we also take into account local consumer preferences and attitudes concerning the use of GM ingredients. Hence, GMO ingredients will be declared on the packaging in case they were present in any of our parallel import products.
Lecithin is an emulsifier that allows hydrophobic and hydrophilic particles to mix together. In KitKat® chocolate, it helps sugar & milk molecules to be easily coated with fat. Lecithin is the main ingredient which helps us obtain the liquid, flow-able chocolate and reach the desired viscosity.

kindly rest assured that the ingredients in KITKAT® are from non-animal origin except for the milk ( cow source).
The whey used in KITKAT® manufactured in NESTLÉ Dubai Manufacturing is sourced from cow’s milk source and is extracted through bacterial cultures and is suitable for vegetarians.
Kindly note that this emulsifier E476 is approved food additives everywhere and it’s from plant origin (usually from palm or castor oil), it’s not manufactured in Saudi Arabia as it’s used for the chocolate it came from UK or South Africa or Malaysia.
The outer wrapper on sweets is made from NatureFlex, which is a treated wood fiber. This is an alternative to cellophane. The wrappers can be then be composted. The colors used on the NatureFlex wrappers are from edible food safe dyes.
Kindly note that all UAE manufactured KitKat® comply with Halal status, as all raw materials are controlled and monitored by Dubai Municipality ensuring that it complies with Halal status.
The name was inspired by a London based 18th Century literary group called the ‘Kit Kat’ club which met in the pie shop of Christopher Catling, a pastry cook.
The health habits that your children form at an early age is affected by the adults around them. The best way to set up your child with a healthy lifestyle is by providing them with a nutritiously balanced diet along with encouraging daily physical activity. Once this lifestyle has been adopted, your child can have KitKat® in moderation. It is essential to mention as well the importance of portion control, so instead of providing your child with 4 Finger KitKat®, it would be better to offer her 2 Finger KitKat® from time to time as a treat.
